Harry Bateman Instructorships in Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology invites applications for Harry Bateman Instructorships in Mathematics, beginning September 2019.


Bateman Instructorships will be offered to recent PhD recipients who show strong research promise, preferably in one of the areas in which the Caltech Mathematics Faculty is currently active

    Algebraic Geometry (MSC 14)/Number Theory (MSC 11)
    Analysis (MSC 65)/Dynamics (MSC 37)
    Combinatorics (MSC 5)
    Finite and Algebraic Groups (MSC 20)
    Geometry (MSC 51)/Topology (MSC 54)
    Logic/Set Theory (MSC 3)
    Mathematical Physics (MSC 34/35)

Appointments are for three years.  Appointees will be expected to fulfill teaching duties (three one-quarter courses per academic year), pursue their own research program, and be in residence even when not teaching.  Summer can be used for one month vacation, research and other scholarly activities.
