Understanding blazar jet microphysics through their radio variability
Ioannis Liodakis, Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Physics, Stanford University,

Even after decades of studying blazars little is known about their intrinsic properties and central engines. This is in part due to the relativistic effects dominating the observed emission and complicating our understanding of the jets and their microphysical processes. I will discuss our efforts in uncovering key aspects of the conditions in blazar jets and quantifying their relativistic effects using state of the art Bayesian hierarchical frameworks and the largest sample of radio bright blazars observed by the Owens Valley Radio Observatory's 40-m telescope.
