LIGO Science Seminar

LIGO Sensitivity 101
Gabriele Vajente, LIGO, Department of Physics, Caltech,

Abstract:

How do we measure how sensitive Advanced LIGO is? What are those mega parsec everybody is talking about?

What is limiting the Advanced LIGO sensitivity? What are the fundamental (and not-so-fundamental) sources of noises in Advanced LIGO? What is a noise budget?

In this seminar, we'll try to answer all those questions, and more, while trying to keep the explanation as elementary as possible.

No quantum field theory will be harmed in the making of this seminar! Bring your own questions.
