Submillimeter galaxies as tracers of protoclusters and constraints on galaxy formation models
Submillimeter galaxies (SMGs), a class of high-redshift, massive, rapidly star-forming galaxies, have been the focus of much observational and theoretical work since their discovery in the late 1990s. In this talk, I will discuss two applications of SMGs: on the observational side, they can be used as beacons of high-redshift protoclusters. Second, I will demonstrate how SMG number counts can be predicted from large-volume cosmological simulations and be used to constrain subgrid models for processes such as AGN feedback.
