Mathematics Postdoctoral Scholars

The Department of Mathematics will be inviting applications for multiple temporary faculty positions beginning September 2019 in the categories 1-3 below. Positions will be offered if funds are available.

  1. Sherman Fairchild and Scott Russell Johnson Research Assistant Professorships: Initial appointments are for three years with a possible additional three-year terminal extension.  The teaching load is two one-quarter courses per year. 
  2. Noether and Taussky-Todd Instructorships:  Appointments are for three years. The teaching load is two one-quarter courses in the first and third year, and three one-quarter in the second year. 
  3. Harry Bateman Instructorships:  Appointments are for three years. The teaching load is three one-quarter courses per year. 

Applicants must hold a PhD by employment start date, and show strong research promise. Special consideration will be given to applicants with research interests overlapping current areas of research in the department, which include Algebraic Geometry/Number Theory, Analysis/Dynamics, Combinatorics, Finite and Algebraic Groups, Geometry/Topology, Logic/Set Theory, and Mathematical Physics.

Appointees will be expected to fulfill teaching duties, pursue their own research program, and be in residence even when not teaching. Summer can be used for one month vacation, research and other scholarly activities.
