LIGO Seminar

Silicon tuning fork mechanical oscillator for the measurement of bond loss
Leonid Prokhorov, Physics, Moscow State University,

Silicon test masses suspended by silicon ribbons or silicon fibers and

kept at low temperature are considered prospective candidates for third

generation of interferometric gravitational wave detectors. To

interconnect the suspension element the technique of hydroxide catalysis (or

silicate) bonding can be used. In order to estimate the bond loss a tuning fork

was fabricated from silicon ribbons, which were then silicate bonded. An

upper limit of the bond loss as a function of the temperature has been

obtained in the temperature range of 95 K – 295 K.

We plan to broadcast these talks using TeamSpeak. Use a sub-channel of
LIGO Lab called "LIGO Seminar", which is not password protected.
NOTE: These and all other scheduled LIGO seminars are listed on the LIGO
Laboratory seminar calendar for convenient reference.
