Entanglement in One-Dimensional Quantum Liquids
Adrian Del Maestro, Assistant Professor, Physics, University of Vermont,

Inspired by recent experiments measuring the quantum entanglement contained in a superfluid of ultracold rubidium atoms, we have introduced a novel protocol to transfer it to spatially separated qubits. Such quantum bits would form the logical basis of a quantum computer with entanglement acting as a resource. We have demonstrated the ideal physical conditions required for its maximal transfer. In contrast to the prevailing notion that the atoms should be prepared deep in the superfluid phase where entanglement is largest, we find that the most entanglement can be transferred near the quantum phase transition, where atoms are on the verge of localizing into a crystalline state. This new method highlights the exciting potential of using ultracold atoms as an entanglement resource for future quantum information technologies.
