Gravitational shockwaves on rotating black holes

Abstract: Gravitational shockwaves signal the breakdown of effective field theory near black holes. I will review what the gravitational shockwave is and show how to generalize it to rotating backgrounds. In doing so I will emphasize the method of spin coefficients, which is a way of recasting gravity in the language of fluid dynamics.
