High Energy Theory Seminar

Moonshine, Supersymmetry, and Quantum Codes
Greg Moore, Rutgers,

I will review a paper I wrote with Jeff Harvey that examined the discrete symmetries of a very distinguished K3 sigma model. See: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2003.13700.pdf . It turns out that the symmetries are closely related to the automorphisms of a simple quantum error detecting code. Along the way I will review a little bit about the old monstrous moonshine phenomenon, and the more recent Mathieu moonshine phenomenon, initially discovered by Eguchi, Ooguri, and Tachikawa. If time permits I will announce a new result about the hyperkahler isometry groups of K3 manifolds, and say a few words about Tom Mainiero's entanglement
homology.
