High Energy Physics Seminar

Precision QCD simulations for the LHC
Stefan Hoeche, SLAC,

This talk introduces parton-shower Monte-Carlo event generators for collider experiments. With the basic concept devised more than three decades ago, parton showers have undergone many improvements over the years. However, their formal accuracy is unchanged from the date of inception. I will discuss successes and shortcomings of the parton shower approximation, and point out how it can be improved to obtain more reliable predictions for multi-jet final states at the Large Hadron Collider.
