Observational Facilities

Caltech develops and operates world-leading observatories that see in every wave length, teaching us about phenomena from here to the far reaches and first seconds of the universe. This unparalleled suite of observational facilities, stationed across the world, includes the following:

Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO)

Owens Valley Radio Observatory

Palomar Observatory

W.M. Keck Observatory

Chajnantor Observatory

Still to come online is a major ground-based telescope—the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT)—which Caltech aims to build in the next decade.
