Measurements of mechanical losses in black coating and bonding of silicon at low temperatures.
Leonid Prokhorov,
Physics,
Moscow State University,
This work was carried out in collaboration with Rana Adhikari Caltech group
and aiming at development of the cryogenic silicon ribbon suspension
prototype. Mechanical loss of the black Acktar coating has been estimated
based on measurements of Q-factors of vibrational modes of coated and
uncoated silicon wafers. Further measurements required to determine the test
mass thermal noise are planned to be performed at Caltech. It will allow
finding a compromise between loss and reflectance of the coating which
provides the optimal cryogenic operation. We started also to study losses
in bonding between two silicon samples using the silicon oscillator formed
by two silicon ribbons bonded to a silicon wafer.
We plan to broadcast this talk using SeeVogh.
