Dynamics in nearly integrable 1D Bose gases after sudden quenches
Yuan Le, Department of Physics, Penn State University,

Studying dynamics in interacting quantum many-body system is a frontier field in physics. Integrable 1D Bose gas systems with δ-function interactions are of special interest because the equilibrium properties can be calculated in theory and measured in experiment, and experimental study of dynamics can test new theories and discover novel phenomena. Here I will talk about two quench experiments in a nearly integrable 1D Bose gas system. In the first experiment, we quench the trapping potential dramatically and test a new theory – generalized hydrodynamics (GHD). In the second experiment, we do a wavefunction quench with a Bragg scattering pulse and observe hydrodynamization (HD), which takes place on the fastest available timescale, and local prethermalization, which characterizes the system's approach to the local generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE).
