IPAC Astronomy Lunch Seminar

Planck - The Long Lagrangian Road
Ben Rusholme, Caltech,
This talk will review the Planck mission. The satellite was launched on 14 May 2009, arrived at L2 on 3rd July 2009, and commenced science observations on 12 August 2009. It has been observing continuously since then, fulfilling the nominal mission 27 November 2010. The High Frequency Instrument (HFI) is due to run out of coolant in February 2012 after nearly 5 full sky surveys; observations will continue some time further with the Low Frequency Instrument (LFI). The first non-cosmolgy results, including the Early Release Compact Source Catalog (ERCSC) produced here at IPAC, were released on 11 January 2011. I will review these results and the current data pipeline working towards release of the nominal mission cosmology results in January 2013. --
