Advances on base change, symmetric powers and tensor product functoriality

We will describe the main strategies in our proof of cases of base change, symmetric powers and tensor product functoriality (the tensor product result is joint work with S. Arias de Reyna and T. Gee). The main tools are the theory of congruences between automorphic forms and automorphy lifting theorems a la Taylor-Wiles.
