Waveform complexity for high confidence detections
Jonah Kanner, LIGO, Caltech,

Past all-sky, all-time searches for short-duration gravitational-wave transients (bursts) have typically failed to distinguish simulated GW signals from glitches at high statistical confidence. In this work, we describe how signal complexity can be used to improve pipeline performance. We test this idea by running the BayesWave Burst pipeline over initial LIGO data and simulated signals.  While the testing results are preliminary, the potential improvement over past burst searches is dramatic.

We plan to broadcast this talk using SeeVogh.
