Disequilibrium, Classicality and Complexity
Charles Bennett, IBM,

Though dynamical considerations, such as the form of the Hamiltonian, are needed get definitions of classicality off the ground by identifying subsystems, we attempt to proceed statically thereafter. We use the quantum Darwinism approach to define classicality as a property of some quantum states (those containing redundant cat-like correlations among subsystems) and the logical depth approach to define complexity as a property of some classical states (those containing internal evidence of a nontrivial causal history).  We discuss the role of thermodynamic disequilibrium in the emergence both of classicality and complexity.
